Evolution of computer science learning tools: from ДВК-2 to Web 2.0 in 20 years..

Indeed, precisely 20 years ago we were using this wonderful piece of soviet computer machinery ДВК-2 as THE tool here at VU MAF (Giedrius was PDP-11 guru at that time
). Before we could use it, we needed to master certain tools – flooppy disks, command-line word processor etc.
Similarly, before we can learn about SOA, WS and Web 2.0 properly, we need to master other tools – blogs, Wiki etc. Every generation has its tools

Just a little side note. During the last lecture I really liked the question of “how many hours a-day do you spend browsing?” It’s a question that I haven’t asked myself for years. Not since the times when I had to connect to the Internet using a modem and on-line minutes were golden (price-wise). So I wanted to share a Firefox add-on that I found useful for tracking my browsing time – Time Tracker (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1887/). It does a pretty good job of tracking the time when you’re actively using the web. If you want statistics of your weekly browsing time, you will still need to write down the total time for each day, but it sure beats making a note somewhere every time you get up to get a cup of coffee.

I’ve just found another timetracker – the online one, that works with Firefox, Opera and IE6+: http://www.slimtimer.com.
Besides, it’s one of Web 2.0 examples…

Thanks, guys. Yes, this is an example of Web 2.0 and RESTful SOA.
Now let’s think about privacy…
